The good, bad and ugly of the tarot world

Why being a tarot reader isn't all rainbows and unicorns

A few years ago someone asked on a Facebook group I was a member of, how many readings other tarot readers generally do in a week. Ten minutes prior to seeing the post I had just finished my monthly accounting so I didn't think twice when I replied with how many readings I generally did. I soon regretted replying to this post.

Hi tarot readers.

A few years ago someone asked on a Facebook group I was a member of, how many readings other tarot readers generally do in a week. Ten minutes prior to seeing the post I had just finished my monthly accounting so I didn’t think twice when I replied with how many readings I generally did.

My reply caused quite a stir, for me anyway. Other tarot readers jumped onto the post and questioned my number. Some even tried to do the math on how many hours I worked as a tarot reader and one reader even did the math on how much money I earned??

I was shocked by the response, others who had replied to the same question with less clients seemed to be fine, but my numbers on how many readings I did in a week seemed to really bother other readers. One tarot reader even called me a liar.

This Facebook group was a large group I had respected up until this point. The replies became more of an attack on me and I saw no response from the admins.

The whole thread that was nothing more than a simple question from a member who wanted to work as a tarot reader and wondered how many readings a week other readers gave but soon turned dark for me.

It really upset me in a way it wouldn’t do if the same was to happen to me today, but back then I didn’t know how to handle a public attack on social media and it all felt very serious.

It showed me a darker side of the tarot world. I saw such nastiness from so called spiritual people. It opened the curtains on the negativity in some groups. However, it also helped me to change my vibration on social media and to protect and defend myself from such attacks.

Even though on the one hand I was really disappointed with other tarot readers I also had some unexpected support. I hadn’t known that a few of my clients were also in the group and they came to my defence. I will never know why I was targeted, I mean who would lie about the amount of readings they do? But I was grateful for the support from those who knew me.

Since then I have seen it many times directed at other readers, group attacks, humiliation, readers talking down to others etc. It can get very dark and ugly.

So, I thought I would do a list of my good, bad and ugly from the tarot world.

The Good

Here is just a short list, but there are many great reasons to learn the tarot.

✔ 1 – TOOL TO SERVE –

I see the tarot as a tool I can use to serve and help. Through my tarot I can find focus, guidance, and the root of certain problems for my clients. As a medium I can use tarot for mediumship. Like a swiss army knife the tarot is a tool that helps me serve in many ways.

✔ 2 – Meet the most AMAZING people –

I have met the most amazing people through tarot and many are now my friends.. I have laughed so hard I have cried and I have cried some, but the magic I have shared with my clients has been powerful.

✔ 3 – SELF HELP –

I don’t tend to do many readings for myself but I use the tarot for other ways to help live my purpose like – guidance when I am upset or angry. I also use tarot for my business – like for inspiration in my social media and I use tarot daily for manifestation work.

✔ 4 – WORKING WITH OTHERS –

Being a tarot reader has given me the opportunity to work with other tarot readers, do tarot conferences and meetings around the world. It has allowed me to find like minded people who I can work and collaborate with in something we love. It has helped me be social and vibe with others.

✔ 5 – A BUSINESS I LOVE –

The tarot has enabled me to create a business I love. There are endless amounts of ways, especially now in the modern era, where reaching clients from around the world is easier than ever. Running a spiritual business can mean you work on your own schedule and if done right can be totally satisfying. I love the vibe in my business and the clients it attracts.

The Ugly

The not so nice tarot readers that lurk around in groups waiting to pounce on other readers shows the ugly side of tarot.

Through meditation, great vibes and confidence in myself as a reader I no longer allow the few negative strangers to touch me.

Instead I focus on the positive tarot readers and people in the tarot world and reply, chat and be social with them.

The Bad

1 – NEVER ENOUGH –

Never being a success in other people’s eyes. It doesn’t matter how great you are, how many goals you achieve and how far your success takes you, most of the time your victories will be alone as those outside of the tarot world will devalue your work as “just a tarot reader” like it has no value.

 2 – LONELY ROAD –

Even though you can meet the most amazing people through tarot, it can also be a very lonely road for many tarot readers and the support can be limited. I know many lonely tarot readers and this is the main reason I became a tarot coach.

3 – NO BLACK AND WHITE

With tarot the meanings are never black and white, Instead they are grey filled with the colours each reader adds. There is no one card that says “he loves you” there is no one card that says it will happen next Friday. Everything depends…. depends on the cards around it, depends on the spread, depends on the context, depends blar blar. This can be really frustrating for many readers.

4 – NEVER ENDING STUDIES –

Seriously, I could be a doctor or an astronaut for all the hours I have put in studying the tarot and it is never ending. There is no final exam, there is no top of the top. Readers are often learning to the day they throw their last cards on the table.

5 – INSECURE INCOME AND HARD WORK –

Working as a tarot reader or running a tarot business is one of the good things on my list and it can be totally fulfilling, but at the same time it can be really hard work, especial at the beginning. 14 hour days with a totally unstable income is the norm for many readers at the beginning. It also comes with a ton of responsibility and is different for everyone.

The Ugly

The most ugly in tarot are the charlatans. It hurts me to hear about people who have been conned into buying products from so called tarot readers of psychics.

Fake readers will use fear for sales and it totally keeps us genuine readers undervalued.

I myself was recently sent a message where a “reader” claimed I had bad energy and if I didn’t pay them to cleanse it away, bad things were going to happen to me.

The whole message was fear for sales and really sick and twisted and it made me wonder how many other people had received the same message and bought the magic cleansing ritual to stop upcoming disaster. How many innocent people may have gone to bed that night worried sick something bad was going to happen because they had to remove the “curse.”

In a world where my mission is to get people to believe in the magical, mystical and spiritual, these people really turn my stomach.

Thank you, love Gaynor.
